Temporary- Manager, Product Labeling & Regulatory Reporting, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

Position Description

Designs, implements, and manages dietary supplement and OTC pharmaceutical drug labeling compliance program for both Sam’s Club and Walmart private by ensuring product labels comply with federal, state, and local laws; and partnering with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance.

Tracks, investigates, and develops plans to address new labeling requirements and other regulatory changes relevant to H&W products by working closely with key internal and external stakeholders to review and determine legal requirements related to product safety & labeling compliance.

Demonstrates up-to-date expertise in dietary supplement product labeling and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices; supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs; and building commitment for perspectives and rationales.

Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders; identifying business needs; determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices; monitoring progress and results; recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; and adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities.

This position would also be responsible for managing follow up to complaint investigations, drafting and tracking regulatory responses, as well as drafting business updates informing key stakeholders of emerging issues.

Models compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by incorporating these into the development and implementation of business plans; using the Open Door Policy; and demonstrating and assisting others with how to apply these in executing business processes and practices.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate would have training or experience in regulatory research and dietary supplement, OTC pharmaceutical, or food labeling. Experience in a third party consulting firm or regulatory agency is also valid. The candidate must have knowledge of federal and state food or OTC pharmaceutical labeling, research capabilities and be able to provide expert advice and guidance to both internal and external customers. This person must have effective communication and influence skills as well as excellent editing and writing skills. The individual must be highly organized, analytical, and an excellent problem solver. Research, communication, attention to details, and decision making are daily responsibilities. The candidate must be a self-starter, must be able to multi-task managing multiple projects, and have a high sense of urgency and integrity.

Entry-Level Teaching Position: The University of South Dakota School of Law

Entry-Level Teaching Positions

The University of South Dakota School of Law may have one or some combination of tenure-track Assistant Professor positions, or contract lectureship positions.  The positions, if any, will be available the 2016-2017 academic year.  Areas of special interest are insurance, family law, agricultural law, the law of technology, civil procedure and skills courses related to civil procedure.  Other possibilities may perhaps include bar preparation or advanced writing courses. The successful applicant must be a licensed attorney in a United States jurisdiction (a state or the District of Columbia) by the time of the appointment.

Appointments for the tenure-track positions are expected to fulfill the tripartite responsibilities of teaching, scholarship, and service.  Appointments at the Lecturer (or Senior Lecturer) position are expected to carry at least the same teaching load as tenure-track appointments and engage in service activities that typically emphasize student organizations, co-curricular activities, extracurricular activities, and free-standing law school events.

Agribusiness Counsel in Georgia

A dynamic and growing multi-state agribusiness wishes to hire an experienced Agribusiness Counsel to join its leadership team.  This is a new position.  The agribusiness is an operating subsidiary of a leading private asset manager which manages a multi-billion dollar global portfolio. Primary responsibilities will include providing pro-active counsel on a wide range of agribusiness-related commercial, operations, regulatory, operations and real estate matters. This is a great opportunity for a strategic and hands-on attorney interested in actively supporting a dynamic agribusiness.  This person will be officed near Valdosta, Georgia and will report to the senior manager of the agribusiness and a senior in-house counsel of the parent firm.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

•   Counsel and support agribusiness (land owner, tenant, employer, grower, supplier, processor, packer, importer) across a very broad range of transactions, including real estate / farm leasing, grower, packing and supplier agreements, equipment purchase and leasing agreements, shipping agreements, easements.
•   Provide counsel on natural resources, energy and environmental matters, including water, oil & gas, pesticides, energy.
•   Provide counsel on diverse federal, state and local regulatory matters core to the business and operations, including product labeling, marketing, advertising, packaging, transportation, food safety, and product recall.
•   Manage claims and litigation, including commercial disputes with tenants, customers, neighbors and vendors.
•   Proactively develop and implement legal management and reporting systems, such as contract management and claims management, to support the agribusiness and reduce legal and regulatory risk.
•   Review, draft, and negotiate other commercial agreements, including non-disclosure agreements, transportation contracts, consulting agreements, and engagement letters.
•   Work with outside counsel, asset managers, and members of the leadership team to address other legal, regulatory, and business issues.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:

•   Highest levels of professionalism, problem solving, interpersonal and communication skills.
•   J.D. degree, with at least 10 years of diverse agribusiness experience. Admitted to practice law, preferably in Georgia or Florida.
•   Prior work at regionally or nationally recognized law firm; in-house experience with an agribusiness strongly preferred.
•   Broad agribusiness-related experience including several of the following areas: environmental, land use, natural resources, intellectual property, food safety, worker safety.
•   Familiarity with agribusiness regulatory compliance (e.g. Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act, Food Safety Modernization Act, Sanitary Food Transportation Act, Clean Water Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act and state counterparts).
•   Enthusiastic and adaptable with a demonstrated ability to effectively incorporate legal and regulatory compliance into a dynamic operating business.
•   Demonstrated ability to assess and communicate risk and achieve positive client outcomes.
•   Actively participate as legal advisor in fast paced, multi-state business leadership team.
•   Consensus builder among diverse parties, including regulators.

•   Interact effectively with internal and external contacts at all levels, including regulatory agency personnel, and customers.

Wallace Center International: 6 Month Paid Internship

The Wallace Center is seeking an Intern, Sustainable and Equitable Food Systems in their office in
Arlington, VA.

The Wallace Center has been a key organization in fostering a more sustainable food and agricultural system in the U.S. since 1983. Today, the Wallace Center is focused on expanding and accelerating the expansion of sustainable and regional food systems throughout the U.S., with a vision for a healthy small and mid-size farm sector and regional food system the offers more good food—healthy, green, fair, affordable food—to more people. Wallace Center is achieving this through regional partnerships, developing new knowledge, building capacity and networking in order to “scale up” the good food value chain beyond the direct marketing realm to retail and institutional markets and other wholesale markets. Wallace Center is looking for an intern that will support the following program: The Wallace Center’s Strengthening Sustainable Farming and Food Hub Development project’s purpose is to support more sustainable agriculture and expand opportunities for small farmers by building the capacity of food hubs to be successful. The program’s specific objectives include: building food hubs’ capacity to overcome current challenges and position them for long-term success through technical assistance and a re-granting program; building small farm capacity and that of their food hub partners to increase and diversity production quantity and quality; and expanding the capacity of the National Good Food Network and its Food Hub Collaboration to assist food hubs and small farm and inform stakeholders of their status and impact.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This six month internship is focused on supporting the Strengthening Sustainable Farming and Food Hub Development initiative described above. The Intern will provide support for outreach activities including technical assistance provision, research, conferences, events, meetings, and communications. This position offers the successful candidate a diverse and meaningful experience in the area of food systems with a dynamic and leading organization in the field.
