DIRECTOR OF FARMERS MARKETS PROGRAM

COMPANY DESCRIPTIONSitka Salmon Shares is a fisherman-owned, boat-to-doorstep seafood company based in Sitka, Alaska.  Since 2011, our company has provided fish-loving Midwesterners the absolute best in wild-caught Alaskan seafood.  We do this through a 4,000-member-strong Community Supported Fishery, a network of regional farmers markets, and a host of wholesale and community partners.JOB DESCRIPTION
This position would work with our fishermen and management team to oversee our company-wide farmers markets program.
 
Specific Position Responsibilities:
  • Identify and pursue growth opportunities for a farmers market program that operates in up to 40 weekly markets in Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Indiana.
  • Improve and implement clear operation and communication policies.
  • Direct and support up to a dozen junior-level and temporary employees.
  • Track and manage program budget.
  • Manage farmersmarket@sitkasalmonshares.com
  • Manage farmers’ market applications and health department permits.
  • Generate monthly data-driven recap of farmers’ markets.
  • Staff occasional farmers markets, especially during summer season.

Required Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated, with an ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal guidance.
  • Organized and able to juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Willingness to travel regionally in Midwest, especially between our good fish hubs in Madison, Wisconsin; Galesburg, Illinois; and Schaumburg, Illinois.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and economic frameworks of farmers’ markets.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Reliable access to and competence using technology to support both at-home and on-site work.
  • Lover of sustainable seafood and local food advocate.

Job Scope and Remuneration:
This is a year-round, full-time management position beginning January 1, 2018. Work may be completed on-site at our Schaumburg Good Fish Hub and from remote Chicagoland locations.  This position requires weekends, especially during summer market season.

Salary: $40,000.00-$45,000.00 annually, DOE, with generous benefits that include health insurance, vacations, and plenty of fish!
