POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting into the Regulatory Affairs Manager II - Customer, the Regulatory Manager I serves as a regulatory and technical compliance consultant to business partners by interpreting, evaluating regulations, industry standards and customer requirements. This position brings risk-based solutions in support of commercialization and related processes, assists in directing the execution of compliance work as necessary, and manages overall customer/project expectations and KPIs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Regulatory Consultation: provides technical and regulatory guidance and direction within and outside of the Quality and Regulatory function to enable successful development of products and service to internal and external customers
- Risk Analysis and Approval: evaluates raw materials, labels, products, claims, advertising, etc., as needed, to make proactive risk-based decisions to enable speed, competitiveness, and regulatory compliance
- Process Implementation and Optimization: Develops and implements new processes and procedures related to new and existing regulations, customer requirements, McCormick standards, etc; delivers training in support of these efforts and as needed for other initiatives
- Governance and Oversight: Participates in programs to ensure that regulatory information is accurate
- Cross Functional Acumen (Supply Chain, Product Development, Sales/Marketing/Commercialization, Customer Service): Understand Quality and Regulatory excellence for multiple parts of the product lifecycle (develop, source, make, plan, deliver, customer)
- Ability to use product lifecycle knowledge to improve competitive positions
- Ability to apply industry best practices in daily operations
- Food Industry/Flavor Industry Insight: Ability to manage site/team in accordance with the appropriate Regulatory and business requirements from Food/Flavor Industry
- Ability to apply and assess appropriate processes and programs that are compliant with applicable Food/Flavor Industry while understanding business impact
- Ability to manage vendor and customer contracts and relationships to meet Food/Flavor Industry requirements and set expectations
- Ability to develop and assess processes that are compliant with applicable regulatory, vendor, and customer requirements for site/team
- Provide leadership on Food/Flavor Industry initiatives implementation, training, and compliance to site/team
- Food Law, Certifications, labeling and Regulations: Ability to manage site/team in accordance with the appropriate certifications, food laws, labeling and compliance regulations.
- Ability to apply appropriate certification, food legislation and regulatory requirements to site/team processes and products
- Ability to develop and assess processes and products that are compliant with applicable regulatory requirements for site/team
- Ability to apply food regulations to critical business decisions
- Ability to interpret food regulations and responding to business needs (customer request, consumer request, business unit request)
- Participation in trade associations and building networks of regulatory experts
- Interaction to legal counsels and regulators
- Training and development of internal and cross functional sites/teams on emerging regulations and/or issues
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline
- Participation in leadership coursework per appropriate level required
- Certification focused on Quality and Food Safety for Supply Chain requirement: PCQI (or HACCP based on region)
- Trade association engagement
- JIFSAN Core Risk Certificate or equivalent
- Food labeling course
- Introduction to Regulatory course and Food & Drug Law course
- 4+ years experience in relevant role
- Experience in at least one Quality focus areas (Customer, Operations, Regulatory, Supplier, Global CoE) or related function, including Supply Chain, Product Development preferred
- Experience in the Food/Flavor Industry preferred
- Team Leadership experience preferred
