The National Turkey Federation (NTF), the trade association for the $13-billion turkey industry, operates on a $3.5-million budget. Located in downtown Washington, D.C., our 10-person team works collaboratively on a hybrid schedule, focusing on issues from food safety and animal health to environment, labor and transportation. Each year we have the honor of coordinating the National Thanksgiving Turkey presentation at the White House.

Role Summary

The Government Affairs Manager will be familiar and interested in both legislative and regulatory affairs. The job will require interaction with Members of Congress, their staff and key regulatory officials. A scientific, technical or legislative/regulatory background is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Executes key portions of NTF’s legislative and regulatory programs to achieve defined policy goals.
  • Leads policy development and lobbying strategies in certain areas, including the preparation of position and policy papers.
  • Develops and maintains contacts with key congressional and regulators’ offices and organizes NTF member meetings with those offices.
  • Staffs NTF member committees dealing with key issues.
  • Plans, schedules and manages multiple research and analysis projects.
  • Provides support in the operation and regulatory compliance for NTF’s political action committee.

Reports to:
Senior Vice President, Legislative Affairs
Vice President, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs

Qualifications and Required Skills

Bachelor’s Degree with experience and understanding of the agriculture/food industry; advanced degree preferred.
At least two years’ working in legislative, regulatory or industry preferred.
Advanced experience with Microsoft Office.
Strong written and oral communications skills.
Ability to manage complex time-sensitive assignments from both supervisors.
