Legal Aid of Nebraska (Legal Aid) is the only statewide provider of free and direct civil legal services to Nebraska’s poor. Legal Aid’s mission is to address poverty through civil legal services, helping our low-income clients achieve positive outcomes that measurably improves the quality of their lives, helps them get up and out of poverty, and increases family stability.
Legal Aid serves a central role in Nebraska’s civil legal aid delivery system, helping low-income Nebraskans identify their legal needs and find assistance from both Legal Aid and its partners. Last year, Legal Aid provided free civil legal aid that impacted over 25,000 low-income Nebraskans through over 11,000 cases. This is a huge amount of direct legal assistance, representing low-income clients with some of life’s toughest legal challenges. To accomplish this, Legal Aid provides a full range of civil legal services, from brief advice and counsel, to assistance with self representation, to pro bono and direct service referrals, to direct representation in local, state, and federal court. With a staff of over 40 attorneys and offices in eight locations, Legal Aid “makes equal justice happen” for its low-income clients.
