UN FAO - Hiring Legal Specialist on the Right to Adequate Food (Home-Based)

The Legal Office of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations provides legal advisory services to governments on food and agriculture and natural resources (including land, water, fisheries and aquaculture, plants, animals, food, forestry, wildlife, environment, climate change and biodiversity), as well as general agricultural issues (institutions, trade, & economic reform). Maryland Sea Grant State Science Policy Fellowship

Maryland is a leader in addressing climate change with a comprehensive program for mitigation and adaptation. The current goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 40% by 2030 and an intent for net zero by 2045. This goal is complemented by ongoing programs for coastal resilience, adaptation to more intense storms, more severe floods, extensive droughts and heat waves. These state-wide efforts are guided by the Maryland Commission on Climate Change (MCCC). 

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Sciences is currently searching for a Science Policy Fellow. The Science Policy Fellow, working with experts within the University System of Maryland (USM) and Second Nature, will lead the development of a report describing conceptual pathways for the UMCES to achieve net zero. In addition, the Fellow will collaborate with experts across USM to develop recommendations for tracking progress, sharing knowledges across the USM institutions and documenting practices that could be adopted by other organizations in Maryland and beyond. The Science Policy Fellow will staff and participate in the MCCC Science and Technical Working Group (STWG) meetings as well as attend MCCC meetings. The Fellow will be able to participate in any STWG activity that suits their background and professional interests.

Maryland Office of the Attorney General - Agricultural Antitrust Fellow

The Antitrust Division at the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is responsible for enforcing the Maryland Antitrust Act as well as the federal antitrust laws where there is a significant impact in Maryland. The Division investigated and pursues enforcement actions against potentially anticompetitive mergers and other conduct that might violate civil and criminal antitrust laws. Division attorneys represent the state of Maryland in national and local antitrust matters that have a direct and/or indirect impact on Marylanders and also advise state agencies on issues of immunity from antitrust laws.

The Maryland OAG is currently hiring an Agricultural Antitrust Fellow will focus on the state of Maryland and prioritize efforts to investigate and understand agricultural and retail food competition issues, with a focus on urban and rural areas throughout the state. The Fellow will work closely with the Assistant Attorneys General in the Division to bring enforcement actions where warranted.

As a member of the Cooperative Extension Service, the Legal and Policy Specialist would be teaching and providing scholarly programs beyond the classroom to a broad diversity of New Mexico citizens and stakeholders. This division works on a wide variety of programs including: the National School Lunch Program, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the Foreign Agricultural Service International Trade and Donation Programs, the Federal Crop Insurance Program, the CCC Commodity Programs, and various loan, guaranteed loan and grant programs for Farm Service Agency, Rural Housing Service, Rural Business-Cooperative Service, and Rural Utilities Service. 

The duties of the Attorney Advisors are:

  • Acting as in-house counsel in litigation of cases and appeals in Federal Civil and Bankruptcy Courts
  • Providing written and oral legal advice to USDA officials in connection with the day-to-day operations of their programs 
  • Conducting legal research to ensure that advice provided is based upon a sounds understanding of the law and facts
  • Advising on commercial transaction matters involving secured property interests and other real estate issues for USDA agencies
  • Recommending actions to ensure that decisions made, and actions taken are practical, effective, and legally sound and defensible
  • Reviewing and preparing various kinds of legal documents for general and specific use, including documents related to contracts, real property transactions, and other commercial transactions
