St. Catharine College is hiring a
Sustainable Agriculture Professor For The Berry Farming and
Ecological Agrarianism Program.
The Berry Farming and Ecological Agrarianism Program at St. Catharine College is founded on the lifework of writer, farmer, and activist, Wendell Berry. The program provides two interdisciplinary sustainable agriculture Bachelor's degrees and seeks a faculty member to develop the curriculum's agroecology and food systems components. The Department of Earth Studies invites applications for an 11-month teaching, research, and advising appointment from terminally-degreed candidates with specializations in organic and sustainable agriculture. Research areas may include but are not limited to agroecology, plant and soil science, horticulture, agronomy, and food systems development. Applicants should be committed to the agrarian principles expounded in Wendell Berry's work.
Candidates should also be prepared to (1) assist the program director in designing field components for a campus farm; (2) implement courses in agroecology, plant and soil science, and food systems; (3) assist in the development of program goals; (4) advise students and contribute to recruitment efforts; and (5) work with the partnering organization, The Berry Center, to engage research activities that support mid-size and small-scale farm operations.
The selected candidate will teach a range of courses including but not limited to: organic crop production, soil ecology, livestock husbandry, and whole farms design. As available and as needed, the selected candidate will also teach botany, ecology, and environmental science courses.
