Extension Assistant Professor, NC State University, College of Agriculture & Life Sciences



The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University is seeking applications to fill a non-tenure track Extension Assistant Professor position in the area of Agricultural Law. The effort split for the position will be 70% Extension and 30% Academic.

The position will develop an extension program that will include publishing through a wide variety of media including peer reviewed publications, factsheets, and web-based materials in the area of Agricultural Law. Presentations to a wide variety of audiences on a broad range of timely agricultural law topics will be a vital component of the extension program. It will also include providing training for professionals including county extension faculty, attorneys, appraisers, and certified foresters. It will also include, but not limited to, county and other programs on topics that include agritourism, voluntary agricultural district programs, conservation, estate planning, transition of farm businesses, energy Issues, business organizational structures, food safety, farm land preservation, liability management, farm labor, and environmental compliance. It is expected that the program will include working with the North Carolina Bar Association and North Carolina State government agencies. The successful candidate will be expected to become a state, national, and internationally recognized expert and leader in the Agricultural Law.

The teaching component of the position includes instructing two undergraduate courses per year. The classes could include agricultural law, environmental law, or other courses on an as needed basis. There is also opportunity to teach distance education overload. Performance will be assessed along several dimensions: the success of the extension program; effective teaching at the undergraduate level; and service to the department, college, university and scholarly organizations. Willingness to participate in interdisciplinary collaborations across academic units is a plus.
