Amazon is looking for an experienced product safety and compliance attorney to support our private brands safety and compliance team. This is a unique opportunity to help us raise the bar on safety across our private brands, including fashion products (apparel and accessories) and everyday household items, under brands such as Amazon Basics, Spotted Zebra, and Happy Belly.
In this role, you will be responsible for counseling cross functional business and compliance teams on regulatory, compliance and product specifications of Amazon branded consumer products. You will also be leading engagements with regulators such as the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Food and Drug Administration.
Preferred location for this position is Washington DC, but will also consider New York NY, or Boston MA.
Key job responsibilities
Providing day-to-day advice on regulations concerning the sale of millions of consumer products sold in our stores
Monitoring and advising private brands and compliance teams on upcoming regulatory changes and maintenance of existing compliance processes
Providing mission critical legal advice on the design of safety mechanisms such as recalls tools; and serving as lead counsel in the response and resolution of regulatory inquiries.
Basic Qualifications
- Law degree (J.D. or equivalent) and membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar
- 5+ years of sophisticated legal experience, to include 3+ at a law firm
- Preferred Qualifications
- A combination of law firm, in-house or government experience
- Experience with US consumer product regulations, such as CPSC, FDA or EPA regulations
- Experience with global environmental and technical regulations attaching to the manufacture, sale, distribution, use and disposition of products including consumer devices, including EU regulatory requirements
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Strong analytical and communication skills
