Health Communications Specialist, FDA



Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Tobacco Products (CTP), Office of Health Communication and Education located in Silver Spring, MD is hiring for a Health Communication Specialist.


Responsibilities/Job Duties


  • Support senior health communication specialists with writing, editing, and clearing visual and textual content for regulatory communications, to ensure accurate, persuasive and consistent delivery of messages to appropriate audiences.
  • Assist with maintaining regulatory content, such as email marketing, websites, social media, print materials and documents, ensuring that the messaging of the content is appropriate for key target audience.
  • Participate in the development, coordination, testing, and analysis of email marketing activities to ensure that communication content is being received, opened, and consumed by identified stakeholders.
  • Utilize social media communication and marketing principles, methods, theories, practices, and techniques to strategically carry out social media communication plans from development to dissemination.


Minimum Qualifications

For GS 9: You must have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service to include, assisting with drafting and editing content for social media, digital web, and print products to ensure the goals of regulatory communication and public health education campaigns are met.


OR


You must have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree; 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related.


OR


Have a combination of specialized experience as described above and higher graduate level education as described above that, when combined, equal 100% of the total requirement.


For GS 11: Have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service to include, drafting and editing content for social media, digital web, and print products to ensure the goals of regulatory communication and public health education campaigns are met and collaborating with social media moderators on guidelines to ensure accuracy, relevancy, and scientific acceptability of responses.


OR


You must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 academic years of progressively higher level graduate education, or LL.M, if related.


OR


Have a combination of specialized experience as described above and higher graduate level education as described above that, when combined, equal 100% of the total requirement.


Time-in-Grade: Any individual who is currently holding, or has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet time-in-grade requirements (must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent in the Federal service). Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.



In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above.
