Position Overview

As part of McCormick’s Corporate Legal Team, this position is an exciting opportunity to join a collegial, dynamic legal department and work with other members of the legal team. The successful candidate will be a motivated and relationship-driven problem solver, and will provide clear, timely, and practical counseling to business leaders on a variety of legal matters, including drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, contract interpretation, general commercial advice, and litigation.

Responsibilities
  • Advise business leaders on a variety of corporate and commercial matters, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and associated documents to support McCormick's business activities
  • Manage litigation and dispute matters, including counsel to management about litigation risks and strategy
  • Provide legal advice and counsel to management and company personnel on various other matters facing McCormick, including commercial matters, antitrust matters, advertising, and food law matters, among others
  • Manage, assess, and supervise outside counsel
  • Collaborate with management on key legal issues to facilitate risk assessment and pragmatic decision making and to develop viable business solutions to potential legal issues
  • Participate as the legal representative on various cross-functional projects and initiatives, and work collaboratively with key functional groups within McCormick

Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Juris Doctorate degree, or equivalent, from an accredited law school; Admitted to the bar, in good standing, and licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state
  • 3-6+ years of substantive legal experience with a nationally recognized law firm or corporate legal department, with emphasis in corporate matters, contracts, and/or commercial transactions
  • Willingness and flexibility to learn and master new and different legal practice areas
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and handle an array of legal issues
  • Ability to develop, foster, and maintain long-term effective working relationships at all levels of the company
  • Ability to manage multiple matters, follow through, and provide sensible, responsive, and practical advice in a timely fashion
  • Excellent organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills; sound legal and business judgment
  • Preferred Qualifications & Skills
  • Litigation management experience
