Florida Certified Organic Growers and Consumers, Inc. (FOG), a Gainesville-based non-profit organization is currently hiring a Local Food Project Coordinator to manage and promote the Alachua County Farmers Market EBT Project and other local projects.
FOG supports and promotes organic and sustainable agriculture, wherein; we educate consumers, farmers, future farmers (children & youth), businesses, policy makers and the general public. FOG’s Education & Outreach projects generate knowledge, share resources, and apply the expertise of FOG that advance organic agriculture and healthy and just food systems. FOG offers SNAP recipients (formerly food stamps) the opportunity to use their benefits to purchase food at two farmers markets in Alachua County; the Saturday Alachua County Farmers Market, and the Wednesday Union Street Farmers Market. The Alachua County Farmers Market EBT Project aims to increase access and affordability of local, fresh food, while also supporting the local economy and small scale farmers.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Local Food Project Coordinator is a full time position with a semi-flexible schedule. This position is responsible for managing and promoting the Alachua County Farmers Market EBT Project and assisting with other local projects.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
The Local Food Project Coordinator is responsible for operating the Alachua County Farmers Market EBT Project at the Saturday Alachua County Farmers Market, SWAG Produce Market, and the Wednesday Union Street Farmers Market and completing all necessary paperwork and support the program requires. The Coordinator is also responsible for promoting the project and farmers markets in general. The Coordinator will plan, develop, and evaluate outreach and education activities. The Coordinator will also be asked to be FOG’s representative and advocate in local meetings and discussions concerning organic and sustainable agriculture.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
o Knowledge of passion for the organic, sustainable and local food movements
o Experience with outreach and event planning
o Experience coordinating and working with volunteers
o Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
o Valid FL driver's license with good driving record
o Good organizational skills
o Self motivated
o Ability to work nights/weekends
COMPENSATION: Excellent benefit package and expected salary of $24,960 depending on experience
