Food and Water Watch - Law Clerk

Contact Email: theinzen@fwwatch.org
Post Date: 03.15.18
Job Type: Internship
Office Location:
  • Washington D.C.
Department: Legal Advocacy
Job Description:
Food & Water Watch challenges the corporate control and abuse of our food and water resources by empowering people to take action and by transforming the public consciousness about what we eat and drink. Through research, organizing, litigation, media, and lobbying, the organization advocates for policies that guarantee safe, wholesome food produced in a humane and sustainable manner. We strongly advocate for public, rather than private, control of water resources including oceans, rivers, and groundwater.
We are currently seeking fall & spring semester law clerks for the Food & Water Justice program, the legal arm of Food & Water Watch. The law clerks will participate in all aspects of Food & Water Justice’s work, including legal and policy research, writing, and litigation. Responsibilities will be both legal- and policy-oriented work on issues including food safety, factory farming, fracking, water privatization, pollution trading, and open-government.
Applicants should be self-motivated, detail-oriented law students who are committed to social justice and the mission of the organization, and who are considering a nonprofit career after graduation. Coursework or clinical experience with administrative, environmental, and/or food law is preferred, but not required. Academic semester positions are unpaid and require a minimum of 20 hours per week. Students seeking full-time or part-time externships for academic credit are encouraged to apply.
How to Apply:
Please send a cover letter, resume, unofficial transcript, three references, and a short writing sample to Tarah Heinzen, via email to theinzen@fwwatch.org.
