Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Provides practical and timely counseling on compliance with federal and state food law requirements for all assigned clients.
- Provide strategic counseling on areas of food safety and quality standards for ingredients, food processing and finished products
- Provide counseling on areas of labeling and marketing requirements (including product naming requirements and claim substantiation)
- Manage registration and reporting requirements, as well as inspection-related requirements
- Counsel the business on changes to existing food law requirements
- Develops industry and trade association relationships to influence new labeling, food safety, and other requirements; prepares persuasive talking points and comments.
- Develops creative and legally sound solutions for business initiatives that raise legal questions.
- Has knowledge of government enforcement practices and experience with compliance counseling, training, and the recall process.
- Researches and maintains awareness of legislative and regulatory developments affecting food law.
- Assists in the development and delivery of training as appropriate.
- Updates current contract templates and develops new templates, as necessary, for use by key stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and top academic credentials
- Minimum 7 years legal experience with 3-5 years food law experience, preferably in a government enforcement agency, at a top-tier law firm, or as in-house counsel
- Advanced knowledge of federal and state food law requirements (specialist knowledge)
- In-depth knowledge of FDA and FSIS procedures
- Marketing and claims experience
