Summary:
TWE seeks an experienced attorney with alcoholic beverage/wine industry experience and strong commercial and transactional experience in the consumer-packaged goods industry. This role will provide practical legal advice to TWE on areas including but not limited to federal and state alcoholic beverage laws, trade practices, compliance and training, commercial contracts and other transactional matters.

Key Responsibilities:
• Advise on compliance with US Federal, state, and local laws and regulations covering all aspects of the alcoholic beverage business, including licensing, production, packaging, distribution, marketing, sales and compliance.
• Advise on rules of international trade, including US Customs and US Treasury Department Tax and Trade Bureau laws and regulations, as well as US international treaty rights and obligations; coordinate with foreign counsel regarding compliance with alcoholic beverage laws and regulations of foreign countries concerning the alcoholic beverage business.
• Advise the marketing and direct-to-consumer teams regarding trade practice issues, including but not limited to distributor incentives, consumer tastings, social media promotions, sponsorships and samples shipping. Develop compliance rationale and devise creative solutions and alternatives so that TWE’s activities remain commercially competitive.
• Create and execute education programs on alcoholic beverage compliance issues.
• Support acquisitions, including detailed reviews of licensing, contracts and compliance practices.
• Negotiate and draft contracts for commercial relationships as directed by the General Counsel Americas, including advertising agencies, sponsorships, research, information technology, events, supply and procurement and others. Provide risk assessment and create and negotiate solutions.

Key Requirements:
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree required
• Active member in good standing of the California Bar or eligible to be registered as an in-house counsel in California
• 8 years+ experience as a licensed attorney at a top-tier law firm or equivalent in-house experience required
• Deep understanding of federal and state alcoholic beverage laws and regulations
• Self-motivator who can work in a fast-paced international public company
• Entrepreneurial mindset that enables you to successfully work independently with little guidance, but also to use good judgment and escalate issues when needed
• Sound and practical business judgment
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
• Attention to detail is required
• Ability to maintain a positive work environment, contribute to group morale and reflect TWE growth behaviours
• Great sense of humour
