In addition to healthy soils, the NRDC’s Food & Agriculture sector works on food waste and on protecting pollinators from systemic pesticides. Recently, the Healthy Soils team took on a new strategic focus on nitrogen overuse. Nitrogen overuse is a significant driver of nitrous oxide emissions, a greenhouse gas approximately 300 times more powerful than carbon dioxide. It also drives biodiversity loss and water pollution, contributing to significant human health threats. The team’s campaign is in early development and is likely to include both a significant federal legislative and administrative advocacy campaign as well as specific state legislative and administrative tactics. The campaign may also contain a legal component. This is an exciting opportunity, as the Director will play a critical role in shaping and executing NRDC’s strategy as it is finalized and launched. In addition, the Director will oversee the team’s day-to-day work, help with fundraising, guides communications efforts, and manage all team staff. The Director of Healthy Soils reports to the Managing Director of Food & Agriculture.

Agricultural Labor Relations Board - 5 Current Openings in California!

The California Agricultural Labor Relations Act (ALRA) is modeled after the National Labor Relations Act, which extends collective bargaining and labor rights to workers. When the NLRA was passed, it excluded agricultural workers. After years of agricultural workers organizing to improve work conditions and labor strife in California due to the lack of a process for growers and farm workers to resolve their disputes, California enacted the ALRA in 1975, becoming the first state to extend collective bargaining rights to agricultural workers and establishing protections for farmworkers to come together to advocate for better working conditions and to protect themselves. The Act created the Agricultural Relations Board (ALRB) to oversee administration and enforcement of the Act, including adjudicating labor disputes and conducting union elections. The ALRB is the only state agency exclusively dedicated to serving and protecting farmworkers. The Act's purpose is simple: Guarantee farmworkers full freedom of choice and precent and redress unfair labor practices. A groundbreaking law, the essential Act continues to serve California with its unique vision of agricultural labor peace.

There are currently 5 attorney positions open on the board. Click here to see each!
