About IATP:
The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) works locally and globally at the intersection of policy and practice to ensure fair and sustainable food, farm and trade systems. Founded in 1986, IATP is an internationalist nonprofit based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with an office in Washington, D.C. IATP was launched as part of a global justice movement in support of family farmers and sustainable food systems and in opposition to corporate control of the world’s resources. Through our national and international work, as well as work in the Upper Midwest, IATP advocates for food, energy and farming systems that strengthen local communities, pay farmers and workers fairly, enhance the environment, and produce healthy food for all.
The organization has a staff of 25, a budget of $2.8 million and is governed by an 11-member international board of directors. It founded and owns the rapidly growing organic fair trade coffee company, Peace Coffee.
Responsibilities:
The president is responsible for carrying out IATP’s mission, providing strategic direction, and ensuring the financial health and stability of the organization. S/he is the public face of IATP to various audiences, including colleagues, funders, policymakers and the media.
Qualities:
IATP is looking for a collaborative, values-driven, visionary leader who is internationalist in perspective, passionate about agriculture and food systems, and skilled at managing a complex, dynamic organization. Successful candidates will have:
§ Stature in a relevant field
§ Demonstrated leadership experience in advocacy work
§ Experience and ability in fundraising
§ Experience and ability in developing strategy
§ Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking
§ Ability to engage with many different cultures, constituencies and audiences
§ Integrity, humor, intelligence
§ Good listening skills
§ Willingness and ability to travel
§ Experience working with a board
