Job description excerpted as follows:
This position will report directly to the Vice President of Agriculture, but will be coordinated with the Office of General Counsel and will fulfill an active role as a member of the Division’s Executive Team. This position will work closely with the Associate Vice Presidents for Agriculture – Research and Extension as well as with the System General Counsel and Vice President for University Relations to provide: advocacy assistance to the Division and to provide timely, accessible, sound, and ethical legal advice to the Division of Agriculture administrators, faculty, and staff on all higher education and agricultural legal issues relevant to the Division programs.
Job Duties
Comprehensive engagement with the Arkansas General Assembly in tracking, monitoring and analyzing proposed legislation; advocacy on issues pertinent to the future of the Division of Agriculture; interaction with state agencies and the Governor’s office on implementation of programs and initiatives relevant to Arkansas agriculture; engagement with the Arkansas Congressional delegation and other federal government entities as part of a coordinated team approach; and other tasks as determined by the Vice President. 
State and federal legislation and regulations, employment law, immigration, tax, agriculture, land use/real estate, freedom of information/open records, intellectual property and technology (in cooperation with the Vice President for Technology Commercialization), contract review and negotiations, drafting and negotiating memoranda of agreement/understanding, and advice essential to preventing or minimizing the Division’s legal exposure in all matters. It is expected that successful candidate will be well versed in the laws and regulations that are unique and pertinent to agricultural research and Extension programming. These duties will be thoroughly coordinated with the Office of the System General Counsel. 
The Government Affairs/Legal Counsel shall also be active in policy development, compliance, and review; and in assisting in internal/external conflict resolution activities.
