Reports to: Policy Director
Position Location: Remote, based in the Washington, D.C. area
Position Objective: The Good Food Institute's senior policy specialist serves the interests of plant-based and clean meat alternatives in Washington, working with other NGOs in support of clean meat and working on dietary recommendations, nutrition programs, agricultural policies, and various other legislative and regulatory endeavors.
Working with Congress on nutritional, agricultural, public health, USDA, and FDA policy in coordination with other groups focused on increasing plant-based options.
Cultivating relationships with other nonprofit organizations, including those focused on environmental, global hunger, public heath, and food safety issues, to build alliances and support for shared goals
Position Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, public health, science, political science, or related field;
J.D. or advanced scientific or environmental degree (preferred);
Minimum of three years’ work experience in a related field (nonprofit or lobbying experience highly preferred);
Experience and comfort in communicating with high-level congressional or executive branch policymakers and staff;
Ability to use data in shaping policy messages;
Experience in coalition building and working in a team environment;
Ability to communicate complex information clearly in writing and in oral presentations to a range of audiences;
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
Ability to work independently and use sound judgment in decision making, including setting and managing priorities and meeting competing deadlines; and
Support for GFI’s philosophy and ability to professionally advocate GFI’s positions.
