Description

 The person filling this position will provide legal counsel to Cargill, Incorporated as an in-house lawyer and will be a part of the Cargill Law Department which is comprised of approximately 400 legal professionals (including 180+ lawyers) working in over 30 Cargill offices globally.  This lawyer will work closely with Cargill business personnel and with other lawyers and paralegals who also provide legal counsel to Cargill.

Principal job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

60% - Providing legal advice to Cargill businesses on a variety of issues, including the drafting of documentation on transactional matters such as product, supply and distribution agreements, acquisitions and divestitures, joint ventures, real estate/property issues, and other contractual matters
 
10% - Managing litigation relating to Cargill’s businesses on matters such as commercial litigation, product liability, personal injury claims, and government enforcement actions, including budgeting and managing outside counsel
 
10% - Practicing preventive law, including providing advice as well as training and education in areas such as antitrust law, regulatory compliance, contracting, corporate structuring, as well as assisting Cargill businesses on compliance with various company policies and procedures
 
10% - Coordinating and collaborating with other members of the Cargill Law Department in certain specialized areas such as environmental, employment/labor law, and intellectual property
 
10%   Miscellaneous projects/duties as assigned

Qualifications

 Required:
  • Must have a law degree and be a licensed attorney with a minimum of three years practice experience (three to five years of practice experience preferred);
  • Must be licensed to practice law in Minnesota (or if currently licensed in another state, with the ability to become licensed in Minnesota);
  • Excellent academic track record;
  • Proven ability to serve as a strong business partner and proven history of building trust with others;
  • Ability to influence at all levels within the organization and a strong history of coaching/developing others;
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in ambiguous situations;
  • Thinks strategically and deeply about issues of significant risk and opportunity and demonstrates superior risk management skills;
  • High impact execution;
  • Proven ability to manage conflict and strong problem solving abilities; and
  • Excellent communication skills required (reading, speaking and writing)
