Position description
Located in the Office of Planning (OP), the Policy Analyst will support the DC Food Policy Director (FPD) and DC Food Policy Council (FPC) in their goals of advancing an equitable, healthy, and sustainable food system in Washington, DC. The Policy Analyst will analyze data, policies, and
programs on DC food issues; conduct research on local and federal programs and policies; and develop reports, briefings, and presentations for diverse audiences. The Policy Analyst will work closely with the FPD and FPC and collaborate with District agency partners and local community organizations to strengthen food policy efforts across the city. In addition, the Policy Analyst will assist in OP’s development and implementation of strategic crosscutting and citywide initiatives related to food, health, sustainability, and culture such as the District’s Comprehensive Plan and
Sustainable DC 2.0.
Candidates for this position should have a deep understanding of the inequities within the food system related to race, class, and power and have demonstrated experience in advancing racial and social equity principles in their work. Candidates should also have food policy experience, ideally within the District of Columbia or in the Washington Metro region, and a demonstrated interest in improving local food systems through policy change and/or community engagement. Candidates should have experience in balancing several different tasks and projects, working independently and within small groups, and communicating complex ideas to a wide range of audiences. Ideal candidates will have knowledge of and experience in several different areas including healthy food access and food security, federal and local nutrition assistance programs, nutrition and food systems education, food procurement, workforce development, and urban agriculture, among others.
