Food Technologist II -  Labeling Compliance

Prime Label Consultants (PLC), a specialized firm focused on food and beverage compliance, nutrition labeling, technology and training, is currently recruiting a self-motivated, experienced Food Technologist II to join the firm in Washington, DC.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Review of food and beverage labels for accuracy and regulatory compliance
  • Develop accurate, compliant labels, nutrition facts panels and ingredient statements
  • Review specifications to evaluate product characteristics, ingredients and claims
  • Review documentation to substantiate marketing and labeling claims
  • Research and provide regulatory consultation on labeling inquiries
  • Lead the planning and execution of complex projects
  • Develop, QC and facilitate trainings for webinars, conferences, and other events
  • Support ongoing business development of client needs into actionable and billable projects
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOP)
  • Provide subject matter expertise on labeling, nutrition and marketing claims and contribute to internal knowledge base of regulatory tools and resources
  • Track metrics on projects and service requests and highlight trends and opportunities for PLC and clients

Other Responsibilities:

  • PLC maintains a successful brand and wide client and contact network, a portion of this position will entail maintaining those relationships and generating actionable projects from recognized customer needs
  • Entrepreneurism and innovation will be highly valued in this position
  • A degree of travel may be required

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Graduate degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Dietetics or related field
  • Two to Five years’ experience in Regulatory, Food and Nutrition Labeling
  • Regulations expertise including Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and familiarity with Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
  • Knowledge of claims and common certifications in food marketing and product labeling

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to recognize and generate deliverables to the firm in a consistent and quality-centric manner
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision on a daily basis
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks of varying complexity and meet deadlines
