This position is in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), Office of the Center Director (OCD), International Affairs Staff (IAS). The incumbent will serve as the Center's focal point for international issues for foods, cosmetics, nutrition and labeling providing leadership and coordination in decision-making on international matters, and enhancing FDA representation in international policy and technical support.
Responsibilities:
Serve as an agency specialist on international public health and its trade impact, areas of importance with respect to international policy direction and the agency?s long-term goals and objectives.
Represent FDA in negotiations with high level foreign government representatives.
Articulate FDA positions on matters related to public health and trade in a persuasive manner.
Work with the IAS Director and other senior policy staff to develop or oversee the development of agency policies, programs, procedures or guidance.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) led efforts to win passage of the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act, Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (to improve school food), Food Safety Modernization Act, Menu Labeling, and Food Allergen Consumer Protection Act. UCS seeks a smart and savvy advocate for renewable energy, electric vehicles, and other science-based solutions to climate change. You will be joining a team of California-based colleagues who are working to further the Golden State’s leadership on these issues, providing a much-needed example to the world of how to decarbonize a major economy while preparing for the unavoidable impacts of a changing climate, and delivering equitable solutions that benefit all Californians. As our California Policy Advocate, you will represent UCS on these issues to legislative offices and committees, administration and agency staff, other non-profits, civic and community organizations, environmental justice partners, and other stakeholders.
