Program Specialist - USDA Food and Nutrition Service

The Regional Office is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the Federal Nutrition Assistance Programs administered by State agencies. As a Program Specialist in either the SNAP or SNP Divisions, the incumbent will:
  • Plan, direct, and participate in formal management evaluation reviews of State and local program operations.
  • Analyze and provide technical assistance and consultation on all aspects of assigned program operations.
  • Meet with State agency representatives to discuss areas of policy and operational non-compliance.
  • Prepare special reports and briefings to alert management to positive trends as well as deficiencies and inconsistencies.
  • Work closely with the Team Lead and Branch Chief to implement and accomplish goals and objectives of the FNS Strategic Plan and unit work plan.
  • Develop written reports of findings and recommendations; negotiate corrective action; and conduct post-review evaluation of corrective action.
  • Coordinate regional training efforts including schedules, agendas, and development of materials.
  • Train state and local staff on program requirements through formal and informal presentations.
