Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track academic appointment. It is expected that an additional 3 months of summer support can be realized through extramural funding or teaching.

This is a unique opportunity to join an expanding cluster of researchers in the field of food safety and food security and offers several infrastructure and collaborative resources within the department and College of Human Sciences:

· The Nutritional Sciences program in COHS has several faculty with strong basic and community research programs focusing on obesity and co-morbid condition, nutritional biochemistry, adipocyte biology, and community-level interventions. 

· A strong undergraduate Nutrition program with a Dietetic Program and Dietetic Internship Program that are accredited through the American Dietetic Association. 

· The Center for The Study of Addiction and Recovery is a well-established center with a nationally recognized and successful program addressing alcohol, drug abuse, and eating disorders.

· The Texas Tech University Health Science Center houses programs in nursing, cancer research, and rural studies.

· Opportunities for partnerships with schools, AgriLife Extension and other community partners interested in food security.

Position Description:

Texas Tech University and The College of Human Sciences are offering a unique opportunity for faculty hire with expertise in Food security/safety with emphasis on Childhood food security, behavioral research at community, national, and international levels. The goal of the university is to achieve leadership in interdisciplinary research and integrated programs addressing state, national, and global levels of public health challenges such as food insecurity and food safety. This position is created to complement existing expertise in food safety, child development, and food security and to enhance the university and college research priorities in the cross-cutting arena of food security/safety, Nutrition and Health. We are seeking outstanding candidates with recognized and established expertise in International health issues and/or behavioral research. This is a 9-month tenure/ tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Associate / Full Professor. 

Responsibilities: 

The successful applicant will be a faculty member in the college of Human Sciences and will be a member of the International Center for Food Industry Excellence (ICFIE) partnership and a member of the Food Security Cluster within ICFIE (for more information see http://www.depts.ttu.edu/foodsafety/research.php).  

Responsibilities will include developing and maintaining a high impact scholarly research program with a focus in food security/safety with a specific emphasis on serving populations in developing countries. Preference will be given to individuals with previous success in the areas of food security as it affects the health of children at the global level with a well-established relationship with international agencies (government, industry, USAID or FAS). The successful applicant must document the ability to function as a successful researcher, develop independently funded initiative projects, and to interact with industry leaders on a commercial level. Service to the department, college, university, and professional societies is expected. Undergraduate and graduate teaching in the candidate’s area of expertise is required. The successful candidate will be expected to interact and collaborate with faculty in the Food Security Cluster. Contribute to developing a strong interdisciplinary food security/safety security research program at community, national and international levels. Be able to work in multidisciplinary teams utilizing cutting edge tools in research involving human nutrition, behavioral approaches and clinical trials to address health issues. Engage in outreach activities related to their research program and perform service to the department, college, university and the profession.
Minimum Qualifications 

Ph.D. in Food and Nutrition, public health, or related biological area, with a focus on behavior modification and agricultural-based interventions in developing countries is desirable. Registered Dietitian credentials are preferred but not required. The candidate is expected to have a nationally established and recognized research program and demonstrate high potential to engage in externally funded collaborative research projects across the college and university, with local/regional, national, and International partners. Candidate must have demonstrated center level leadership and ability to work collaboratively to develop new food security/safety-related initiatives. Behavioral and lifestyle interventions relevant to the sustainable prevention of food insecurity will be desirable. Excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere are expected.
