This position is located in the Healthy Foods, Healthy Lives Institute, a university-wide institute administered by the College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences. The current staff consists of a part-time director and full-time assistant director. The major goal of the HFHL Institute is to utilize and help build the strengths of the University of Minnesota in the area of food and health to advance scientific and public knowledge and influence public policy. The Institute administers a series of grant programs, an annual symposium, a number of networking events, and numerous other programs. The Program Coordinator will be located in the Dept. of Food Science and Nutrition and will assist in the management of programs of the Institute including grant processes, communications, event planning, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Bachelor’s degree (BS or BA) and one year of related work experience.
• Experience preparing, editing and formatting written communication.
• Experience developing promotional or marketing materials.
• Website editing and maintenance and publication software experience; experience with grant programming from a program grantee or funding agency perspective;
• Experience managing budgets.
• Strong demonstrated organizational and management skills.
• Experience using the following applications: MS Office; Excel database management.

• Experience organizing and managing events such as workshops, conferences and meetings including negotiating facility rental, ordering food, and contracting with speakers.

The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) is seeking a Director for our Northeast Regional Office. NCAT is a private non-profit organization that works to foster and promote sustainable technologies and systems, especially for the benefit of economically disadvantaged individuals and communities. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, & REQUIREMENTS

The position requires the equivalent of an MA/MS degree plus a minimum of 7 years of increasingly responsible professional experience. Experience in the practice and transfer of information on sustainable agriculture is required. Of particular importance would be an interest and knowledge in pasture management, animal health and production, sustainable dairy systems, organics, and direct marketing of agricultural products. Experience with farm energy topics including bio-based fuels, conservation and renewable is a plus. Experience collaborating with other non-profits is a must.

The successful candidate will need to be well-organized and able to work independently as well as with others. You should be an excellent communicator with experience in writing and public speaking. If selected, you must be an ambassador for NCAT with an excellent understanding and willingness to share NCAT’s mission and message. You should have proven relationships working with individuals, universities, sustainable agriculture and non-profit organizations in the Northeast. Job Description: The Manager of the Family Farm Food Safety Program will develop a food safety program at CAFF that is focused on advising California specialty crop farmers on developing farm-level food safety plans, particularly small- and medium-scale family farmers engaged in direct marketing. Many such farmers have no experience with food safety issues. The idea is to create a position that is not simply a food safety auditor but is instead an advocate and advisor for California family farmers. The Manager will become familiar with all relevant food safety GAPs and outreach programs, including USDA and state programs, specialty crop-specific programs, private auditing firms’ programs, UC recommendations, as well as programs developed by the Produce Safety Alliance at Cornell. The manager will also be familiar with food safety requirements of California retailers, food service companies, processors, and other potential purchasers of family farm specialty crops. In collaboration with project partners from the University of California and other organizations, the Manager will conduct workshops for farmers and will be available for personal one-on-one consultations and farm visits with the target specialty crop farmers, in order to assist them in developing their own farm food safety plans. The Manager will also participate in a variety of conferences and other public processes related to food safety.

Eligible applicants must possess the following skills and experience:
• Farming experience, specialty crop experience desirable
• Food safety farm program implementation in one or more specialty crops and/or auditing experience, preferably both
• Interest in and familiarity with organic, biodynamic and sustainable agriculture
