Farmers’ Market Coordinator

Overview:

The Farmers’ Market Coordinator reports to the Manager, Farmers’ Market Programs and is responsible for the overall coordination of the Health Bucks program - the nation’s largest city-run farmers’ market incentive program.   The primary responsibilities of this position will include coordinating distribution and tracking of Health Bucks to farmers’ markets and community-based organizations across NYC. The position will oversee program reporting and evaluation, including data entry.  The position requires a high level of organization and significant experience with Microsoft Excel. 

DUTIES:

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

Job Description

·    Oversee distribution and tracking of Health Bucks coupons to farmers’ markets and community-based organizations.

·    Provides technical assistance and outreach to community-based organization to effectively implement nutrition and food-based education with partners and farmers’ market staff.

·    Assist with the development of promotional materials.

·    Oversee the development and implementation of farmers’ market walking tours.

·    Assists with the recruitment, interviewing and hiring of nutrition and farmers market-based consultants and interns.

·    Processes payments and assist with the management of program budget.

·    Assists with supervision and training of interns assisting with farmers’ market-based work.

·    Monitors program database entry and reporting.

·    Conducts community outreach to promote nutrition education and food access at farmers markets

·    Assist in the preparation of evaluation and related reports.

·    Assists in nutrition research projects and field studies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A  Master’s degree with a specialization in an appropriate field of public health, nutrition or related degree.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

• Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and computer skills.
• Experience working with data, budgets and fiscal reporting.
• Ability to think independently and multi-task.
• Knowledge of and experience with working with farmers’ market-based programming.
• Experience supervising interns or staff
• Knowledgeable about community food security issues in New York City.

The Director of Government Affairs for Roll Global will work to create strategic, mutually beneficial, long-term relationships with legislative, regulatory and other third party organizations. The Director will be tasked with articulating Roll Global’ s business position where necessary when interfacing with regulatory bodies and government agencies. 

The position will report to the Chief Legal Officer and/or the Assistant General Counsel. This position is located at our Los Angeles corporate office with travel mostly throughout CA and Washington D.C. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

• Develop, recommend and execute political and legislative strategies to advance and protect Roll’s positions in the areas of agriculture, food, wine, labor, trade, tax and other business issues 

• Primarily involved in the food policy, marketing and trade side of Roll’s businesses 

• Build, develop and manage relationships with US governmental agencies (USDA, USTR, FAS, Commerce, EPA) 

• Build, develop and manage relationships with state agencies (CDFA) and with other relevant federal and state advocacy organizations (e.g., chambers of commerce) 

• Build, develop and manage relationships with Congressional offices in DC 

• Handle international trade relations, especially with China (CFDA), Korea (KFDA) and in Europe 

• Build, develop and manage relationships with relevant government bodies and international agencies 

• Work with Chinese consultants to monitor and comment on new Chinese laws, policies, enforcement practices, etc. that affect imported products (e.g., pistachios, almonds, bottled water and pomegranate juice concentrate) 

• Handle legislative tracking, proposing legislation, commenting on legislation, and managing lobbyists (when needed) 

• Work with Roll’s regulatory team to assist with food safety, legislation, and regulatory issues that overlap with government affairs 

• Work with trade and industry associations to ensure company views are communicated directly through these associations to government policymakers on legislation, regulation and interpretation of issues which impact the Roll companies 

• Coordinate with Roll’s staff on political giving priorities to advance identified political and legislative strategies 

• Handle MAP funding through the USDA 

• Participate in periodic trade missions with the USDA or other agencies 

Minimum Requirements: 

• B.A. or B.S. required; J.D. is a plus 

• Minimum 7 to 10 years working in government affairs, preferably in DC with agency experience 

• The ideal candidate will think broadly and strategically about our advocacy and facilitate the organizational objectives.

About the Animal Law Institute Litigation Fellowship:The Fellow will learn to develop state and federal strategic impact litigation that betters the lives and legal status of animals. The model applicants must have earned a J.D. within the past three years, excelled in school, earned strong work references, and have a sincere and proven interest in animal protection. The primary focus of the fellowships is on civil animal law issues, but all Fellows will be exposed to criminal anti-cruelty cases as well.

The Fellowship begins in the Fall of 2014, lasts roughly two years and is based at ALDF’s headquarters in Cotati, California. The position offers a salary of $39,500 annually, full medical and dental benefits, and a casual office environment, including companion animals.

Positions Available

The Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) has openings for anti-hunger VISTA members in its three state-based initiatives headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland;  Washington, DC; and Richmond, Virginia to help build capacity for the federal nutrition programs in those states.  These positions are one-year AmeriCorps/Vista placements with FRAC’s Maryland, DC and Virginia programs.

Organizational Background

FRAC is the leading national organization working to improve public policy to eradicate hunger and under-nutrition in the United States. FRAC engages in advocacy, research, analysis, policy development, training, technical assistance, and public education to improve public nutrition programs (e.g., SNAP/food stamps, school meals, summer and afterschool food, child care food, WIC) and anti-poverty programs and broaden their reach.

Maryland Hunger Solutions (MDHS), D.C. Hunger Solutions (DCHS), and Virginia Hunger Solutions (VHS) are FRAC initiatives with the mission to create local hunger-free communities and to improve the nutrition, health, economic security and well-being of low-income residents of these communities.  VHS is a joint project with the Virginia Poverty Law Center (VPL).

Responsibilities

The full-Year VISTA members will support FRAC’s work in DC, Maryland, and Virginia to build capacity to expand access to the federal Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program (SNAP).  The members will help recruit and train volunteers to assist in SNAP outreach.  They will help identify and engage community partners, faith-based organizations, and local agencies to expand the number of organizations providing SNAP application assistance and will coordinate with partner organizations to develop innovative and targeted plans to reach special communities of interest (non-English speakers, seniors, rural populations and low-income workers).  They will also create and update SNAP toolkit resources and investigate ways to better inform recipients of the SNAP Employment and Training Program and will include information about that program in SNAP toolkit materials and trainings. Vista members may also work with farmers’ markets to improve and expand the use of EBT at the markets and to provide outreach to ensure that recipients are aware that growing numbers of markets accept SNAP benefits.

Skills and Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree; with preference for a degree in a field related to anti-hunger / social justice.

·         Good oral and written communications skills. Ability to present and speak in public on behalf of the organization.

·         Detail-oriented planning and implementation skills.

·         Willingness to work varied hours.

·         Good organizational skills.

·         Self-starter; ability to work independently.

·         Excellent interpersonal skills; team orientation.

·         Evidence of commitment to social justice; experience with SNAP/food stamp program a plus.

·         Ability to travel around the state for meetings and events. (For Maryland and Virginia positions must have own transportation; mileage will be reimbursed.)

Farm to Institution New England (FINE) is a six-state collaboration working to strengthen our regional food system by increasing the demand for and use of New England food by New England institutions such as schools, hospitals, colleges, government and corporations. FINE has strong roots in the National Farm to School Network and we are actively forging connections with many other organizations, agencies, businesses and funders with similar goals.  FINE partners are working to conduct research, run pilot projects and convene learning communities related to critical elements of the regional food supply chain, including production, processing, distribution and food service operations. 

POSITION OVERVIEW

FINE seeks a consultant to build the development capacity of FINE and enhance the development capacity of partner organizations in the region. The consultant will work with the FINE Coordinator and Leadership Team to map out FINE development goals over the next 3 years, identify potential funding structures and sources, and lead development efforts. The consultant will help FINE think creatively about development of the collaborative beyond fundraising—to strengthen relationships and to create synergy and trust among partners. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

●      Create 3-year fundraising plan for FINE based on the emerging strategic plan that may include grants, membership, sponsorships, and partner models to sustain regional collaboration.

●      Participate in FINE strategic planning process (through March 2014).

●      Coordinate, support, and participate in FINE’s Development Work Group, which involves the fiscal sponsor, program leads, and FINE coordinator.

●      Coordinate the full range of activities required to prepare, submit and manage grant proposals and grant reports to foundation, public, individual, and corporate funding sources. 

●      Research, evaluate and document funding prospects, develop and maintain a prospect database that includes a calendar of proposal submission timelines.

●      Develop and maintain a database of potential projects to fund, ranking them local, state, or regional.

●      Act as a mentor and information ambassador for FINE partners as they look to fund their project goals.

●      Coordinate regional fundraising collaboration among FINE partners and provide fundraising information and connections for state level partners.
