Senior Lawyer: Food, Feed & Products Law (Open to Remote), Cargill



Senior Lawyer: Food, Feed & Products Law.  As a recognized company authority in food, feed, and products law, you will handle and provide legal services for assigned businesses and functions and perform special legal assignments of major importance in a highly complex legal field.  In this role, you will partner collaboratively with business leaders to provide advice and services on issues concerning the rights, obligations and privileges of the organization.

Key Accountabilities

  • Maintain expertise and serve as an expert as to relevant proposed and existing laws, statutes and regulations
  • Proactively identify, evaluate and address complex and strategic issues of legal, commercial and organizational risk
  • Provide proactive food, feed, cosmetics and pharmaceutical law counsel, advice and solutions to U.S. and global businesses
  • Provide counseling relating to new product development, including GRAS applications, food contact substances, and substantiation and communication of health, nutrition, and other regulated food and feed-related claims
  • Advise businesses on product retrieval events (recalls, withdrawals, etc.) 
  • Engage with federal regulatory authorities, as appropriate 
  • Independently structure, draft, negotiate and approve legal agreements, written communications, policies and other documents related to a variety of complex regulatory and operational matters
  • Resolve business and organizational issues by identifying practical legal solutions and executing a course of action
  • Handle legal issues that have a significant impact on organization operations, strategies or profitability
  • Develop a legal services strategy to achieve the business, functional and organizational goals
  • Provide expert consultative guidance for initiating strategic long-range goals and objectives. You may provide direction to supporting team members and be a strategic contributor

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Juris doctor and a license to practice law in current jurisdiction with an ability and willingness to be licensed in Minnesota, if necessary 
  • Experience interpreting, applying and advising on FDA and state laws and regulations for human food and animal feed
  • Exceptional communication, advocacy, influence, writing and drafting skills
  • Ability to drive teams to achieve commercial outcomes using a creative, resilient and agile approach
  • Ability to serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders, to proactively resolve conflict and to face into tough organizational issues
  • Experience leading teams, legal and otherwise, to achieve objectives and positive outcomes
  • Strong teaching, coaching and partnering skills and the ability to share and explain complex concepts to varied audiences
  • Minimum of eight years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications


Confirmed community service leadership, including pro bono work
