What you will be doing

We have an opening for Senior Paralegal - Regulatory Specialist for our Regulatory Law, Ethics and Compliance team. The Senior Paralegal / Regulatory Specialist will perform substantive and procedural work under the supervision of the Regulatory Legal Department to ensure that Albertsons is receiving appropriate advice and counsel regarding the regulations and laws that are applicable to the business and supply chain to mitigate attendant risk. Areas covered by the Regulatory Legal Department include FDA, USDA, EPA, and CPSC requirements, alcohol and tobacco federal, state, and local regulations and consumer protection matters (pricing and weights and measures).

This role can be based in Pleasanton, CA, Chicago, IL, Boise, ID, or Dallas, TX

Main responsibilities

• Monitoring federal, state, and local legislative, regulatory and litigation developments and trends relevant to the food and beverage retail industry, including alcohol
• Conducting, analyzing, and summarizing basic legal research in key regulatory spaces, including alcohol (e.g., trade practice, licensing, delivery, and labeling), claims substantiation and labeling requirements for food and beverages, and government assistance programs (e.g., SNAP and WIC)
• Maintaining databases and tracking adherence to state and federal regulatory requirements to identify trends and communicate opportunities for continuous improvement
• Applying knowledge of regulations and Albertsons policies to provide initial review of product claims, marketing, and labeling to ensure adherence to FDA, USDA, TTB, and state regulatory requirements
• Developing training materials for business and legal partners on key regulatory issues
• Assist with regulatory due diligence on potential acquisitions, strategic investments, and divestitures
• Manage Regulatory Legal budget and matter management, including outside counsel spend

What we are searching for

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent paralegal experience
• At least 10 years of experience as a paralegal or regulatory specialist, with at least 3 years experience in the food and beverage industry
• Ability to identify and analyze complex issues and evaluate their broader implications for the business; interact with clients; and communicate effectively in person and in writing
• Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and take ownership of issues and matters to their successful conclusion
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to inspire trust and confidence with stakeholders at all level
• Exemplary time management, project management, attention to detail, and organization skills
• Expertise with PowerPoint, Word, Excel, MS Teams
• Committed to compliance
• In-house experience preferred
• Experience managing outside counsel and legal budgets preferred
