Institute for Agriculture & Trade Policy (IATP) -- Program Associate for Climate and Rural Communities

IATP works locally and globally at the intersection of policy and practice to ensure fair and sustainable food, farm and trade systems.

The Program Associate for Climate and Rural Communities will work with our team at the intersection of climate and agriculture policies. The primary focus of the work will be in Minnesota and at the U.S. national level. All IATP staff are expected to have an internationalist perspective and to align domestic work with IATP’s overall climate goals (including how they intersect internationally). The position will require coordination with international coalitions. The position is full-time, exempt based in the Minneapolis office.

All IATP program staff work in partnership with farm justice and climate-focused organizations in networks and coalitions to develop effective policy strategies and public education tools. The position will also include policy advocacy with decision-makers, legislators, journalists and the wider public.

Center for Science in the Public Interest -- Senior Policy Associate

The Center for Science in the Public Interest is the leading, independent authority on food and nutrition. Recognizing that consumers can only eat healthfully when healthy options are available, we work to improve the places where people buy and eat food. By building support for the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, we improved school meals and by threatening litigation against the American Beverage Association, we removed full-sugar soda from schools. CSPI successfully led efforts to include menu labeling provisions in the Affordable Care Act, allowing consumers to choose fewer calories and incentivizing restaurants to add healthier menu items. Our leadership on food service guidelines is helping communities increase access to healthier food in public spaces like government agencies, hospitals, and correctional facilities. 

The Senior Policy Associate advocates for improved food and nutrition policies with local, state, and federal policy makers; encourages food companies to improve their products and practices; and engages organizations, health professionals, academics, and concerned citizens in supporting food and nutrition policies. This work will engage and support historically under-resourced communities that experience health disparities and are disproportionately targeted by the marketing of unhealthy food and beverages. This position reports to the Advocacy Director, and is available either in CSPI’s Washington, DC office or remotely.

Levin Center Oversight Fellowship Program

The Levin Center at Wayne State University Law School seeks applicants for its Levin Center Oversight Fellows Program to encourage scholarly research into oversight investigations conducted by Congress or the 50 state legislatures.

 A core objective of the Levin Center at Wayne Law is to promote greater research into oversight by legislative bodies with the ultimate goal of fostering high-quality fact-finding and oversight investigations that are not captive to partisan interests. This fellowship program is established to encourage scholars, including post-doctoral students and professors early in their careers, to conduct research and produce papers with useful research results related to oversight by legislators.

The Fellowship provides an outstanding opportunity for collaboration with the Levin Center team, a fast-paced group of professionals based in Detroit, Michigan and Washington, D.C. with significant oversight expertise and activities that include oversight workshops for elected legislators and their staffs, scholarship opportunities, law student internships, model oversight hearings for high schoolers, podcasts, and conferences. Food Systems Research Intern, The Lexicon of Sustainability - Remote

The Lexicon of Sustainability brings together multi-stakeholder groups to fast track food system solutions. We are looking for additional support in the form of 3 part time paid internships to support the team with research and writing projects this spring. Responsibilities include communicate at least weekly with Project Coordinator to plan out tasks for the week, research topics related to agro-biodiversity, agriculture, food systems and supply chains, participate in bi-weekly meetings, gather research materials, and write and edit food systems stories.

UCLA Senior Administrative Analyst (International Food Law and Policy Fellow)

Under the direction of the Directors of the Resnick Center for Food Law and Policy at UCLA School of Law, the International Food Law and Policy Fellow will undertake research and writing as part of an international project in the regulation of food. The fellow will work closely with faculty and staff at the Resnick Center and other researchers at UCLA and its project affiliates to research, select, and analyze best practices in food regulation from countries around the world. Emphasis will be given to analyzing best practices that enable consumers to make better choices for their personal health, the environment, and equity. Emphasis also will be given to building model legislative and regulatory approaches in the food space and to inspire regulatory innovation and novel approaches.
