This position is in the Senior Executive Service (SES), a small elite group of senior government leaders who possess a diverse portfolio of experience and the strong skills required to lead across organizations.  This dedicated corps of executives is charged with providing strategic leadership and upholding a commitment to public service that transcends loyalty to a specific agency mission or individual profession.  As an SES member you will influence the direction of innovation and transformation of the federal government and lead the next generation of public servants.
This position is located in the Food and Drug Division (FDD), Office of the General Counsel (OGC), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).  The incumbent serves as a principal legal counselor and adviser to Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on FDA enforcement and litigation matters.  Because of the significant and growing scope and breadth of the FDA programs, a second Deputy Associate General Counsel for Litigation position is being created to supervise and direct enforcement and defensive litigation of FDD.  In this capacity, the incumbent is one of two Deputy Associate General Counsels for Litigation having responsibility for satisfying FDA civil and criminal litigation responsibilities involving, among other things, the following areas:  drugs, biologics, foods, devices, veterinary medicine, imports and exports, international programs, radiation products, and tobacco.  The incumbent supervises the work of the employees involved in FDA enforcement and defensive cases and is held responsible for the success of those activities.  The incumbent serves as a member of the FDD senior management team and participates with the Associate General Counsel, the Principal Deputy Associate General Counsel, the other FDD Deputy Associate General Counsels for Program Review and Litigation, and the FDD Executive Officer in the overall management, program, and policy development for the office.
