Summer 2014 Law Clerk - Center for Food Safety

Summer 2014 Law Clerk
November 01, 2013
San Francisco, CA or Portland, OR

Overview:  The Center for Food Safety (CFS) is a nonprofit public interest and environmental advocacy organization that addresses the impacts of the industrial food production system on human health, animal welfare, and the environment and promotes sustainable alternatives such as organic agriculture. CFS works to achieve its goals through litigation, grassroots campaigns, legislation, public education, and media outreach. CFS has an impact litigation docket, and is currently actively involved in multiple high-profile cases. Learn more at centerforfoodsafety.org.
Position Description:  CFS is seeking creative, motivated law clerks interested in doing meaningful litigation and policy work on behalf of the public and the environment. Specific issues involve genetic engineering, ecological agriculture, animal welfare, and other food safety and environmental issues.  Clerks’ responsibilities could include performing legal research, drafting pleadings, attending hearings, writing petitions, and supporting attorneys in litigation.  Law clerks will work closely with attorneys in a small non-profit setting while gaining practical litigation and policy experience.
Qualifications:  CFS seeks law clerks available to work full-time for 10 weeks in our San Francisco or Portland office.  Positions may be paid, but we encourage students to seek fellowships, school credit, or work study.  No experience in food issues necessary.  Environmental law classes are a plus, but not required.
The Center for Food Safety offers equal opportunity with respect to race, gender, age, ethnic background, disability, or sexual orientation.
To Apply: E-mail cover letter, resume, writing sample, and references to Jessica Daniels at jdaniels@centerforfoodsafety.org.
