Our Global Law Services organization provides key legal resources for the John Deere enterprise, charged with the task of providing representation for the company regarding various products and services in our domestic and global markets. These legal counsel opportunities can range from Human Resources/Compliance, Patent, Trademark and Corporate Securities to Product Liability. No matter what the topic, our legal team ensures the John Deere team continues to operate with integrity.
What You’ll Do
As a Trademark Attorney for John Deere in Moline, IL, you will render legal advice to the company regarding trademark law. In addition, you will:
- Manage a docket of registrations in the US and foreign countries, including developing a global filing strategy, filing US trademark registration applications, prosecuting applications to registration, handling affidavits of use and renewals, and managing and corresponding with associates in foreign countries regarding filing of trademark applications abroad
- Conduct international trademark clearance studies and render clearance opinions
- Assist in the negotiation and drafting of trademark licenses
- Assist with managing a docket of trademark infringement cases in the US and internationally, taking action against trademark infringements by third parties and managing trademark related litigation
- Ability to learn and use matter management systems, including extraction of information
What It Takes
We need an excellent communicator, both written and verbal, who thrives on solving problems and working in a global team environment. Ideally, you will have a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and admission to the bar in a U.S. state. We also require:
- 1+ years of experience as a trademark attorney
- Knowledge of risk management within areas of specialization and responsibility
- Skill in interpersonal communications, negotiation, and conflict resolution
A strong candidate will also have:
- Experience managing an international portfolio of trademarks
- Experience filing US trademark applications
- Experience utilizing Madrid trademark filing system
- Strong background in global trademark clearance
- Experience managing trademark infringement cases with strong understanding of global strategy
- Experience with using matter management systems, including extraction of information
