Position: Food Policy Analyst
Terms: Part-Time, Temporary, 2-3 months starting ASAP and no later than June 12th
Compensation: $5,000 maximum, based on final deliverables
Location: Colorado, but position can be fulfilled remotely

The Colorado Farm & Food Systems Response Team will be bringing on two contract positions - a policy analyst and a systems development analyst focused on supporting stronger connections to technical assistance. farmers and ranchers as they respond to current and potential market disruptions due to
COVID-19. Through policy advocacy, sharing and communications, funding, training and
technical assistance, and on-going data analysis, we work to ensure all Colorado producers are
equitably connected to resources and market connections. Our team is focused on supporting
the specific needs of small- and mid- size growers, direct market farms, beginning farmers and

Urban Roots - Executive Director Position in Austin, TX

The only farm-based youth development and community impact organization in Austin, Urban Roots has been empowering youth and nourishing the Greater Austin community for more than 10 years. Since 2008, 344 youth have graduated from Urban Roots internship programs and have cumulatively earned over$572,000. Over 320,000 pounds of sustainably grown produce has been harvested on the 3.5 acre Urban Roots farm in southeast Austin, and 131,000 pounds of that has been donated to local food access organizations.

Allegheny Mountain Institute seeks Executive Director

Allegheny Mountain Institute (AMI) is a 501(c)3 educational nonprofit organization founded in 2011 as Allegheny Mountain School.  It is located in Staunton, Virginia. AMI offers an intensive hands-on cooperative experiential learning and training program designed to teach members of our communities to grow and prepare their own food and to understand the nutritional benefits of eating seasonally.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director has overall management responsibility for Allegheny Mountain Institute’s staff, programs, finances, fundraising, execution of its mission and strategic planning.  The AMI Executive Director must hold the organization’s vision of a thriving network of collaborative, vibrant communities who value the connection between food and health.

 The AMI Executive Director position is a senior leadership and management position for a complex non-profit organization with multiple programs operating from multiple work sites.  The ideal candidate must have at least 5 years of experience in non-profit management, finance, personnel management, and fundraising.  Applicants resumes should display clear evidence of being a capable leader, organizer and motivator of groups of people.  A strong commitment to regenerative agriculture, healthy food systems, and conservation is expected. The preferred candidate will have a passion for farming, gardening, and / or healthy food preparation. Since education of the broader community is a key component of the AMI programs, a competitive applicant should also have an interest and capabilities in community development, networking, and communications.   The AMI Executive Director must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends and should be willing to travel to rural work sites as needed to provide leadership and supervision for Farm Managers and other employees at those sites.

Legislative Assistant to Congresswoman Chellie Pingree - Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities will include staffing the Member on the House Agriculture Committee and the House Appropriations Committee’s Agriculture subcommittee. Delta Directions: Visiting Scholar

The Delta Directions Consortium (DDC) welcomes academics with a research focus on rural socioeconomic development and/or health to apply to join the Center for Population Studies (the Center) at the University of Mississippi as a Visiting Scholar for the Summer of 2020. The DDC is an interdisciplinary network of partners that focuses on the intersections of socioeconomic development, health, and wellbeing, with a goal of bringing together the social sciences, public health, and law and policy with community partners to address complex issues in the multi-state Mississippi Delta Region. The Visiting Scholar position will include a 2 to 3-week residency in the Mississippi Delta (e.g., Clarksdale) or at the Center in Oxford, MS. The Scholar will have access to the Center’s office facilities and computer lab, as well as the data and mapping resources of the State Data Center. In addition to Center staff, the Scholar will have the opportunity to connect with the DDC’s members and partners, including: the Harvard Law School Food Law & Policy Clinic (lead partner), Mississippi State Social Science Research Center, Harvard School of Public Health, University of Mississippi School of Law, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi, and the Winokur Family Foundation. The ideal candidate would seek to enhance their own scholarship by incorporating the Mississippi Delta regional community into their research or by using the opportunity to examine parallels/distinctions between the Mississippi Delta and other rural communities of study. The Scholar is expected to contribute to the DDC’s ongoing efforts in the Delta region by engaging with the Center’s research team, sharing relevant insights, exchanging ideas, and participating as a speaker at the annual Delta Regional Forum (July 1 & 2, 2020).

Applicants must have a terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D. or J.D.) and a professional affiliation with another institution. Keller and Heckman LLP, an international law firm with an established administrative law practice, is seeking a talented junior level associate attorney with up to 3 years of experience to join its growing Food and Drug regulatory practice in its Washington, D.C. Office.  Work will include advising clients on food, food additive, food labeling, food packaging, and food safety matters, establishing appropriate regulatory status for various ingredients, and other FDA and USDA regulatory matters.

In addition to FDA and USDA experience, experience with Agency rulemaking proceedings and familiarity with matters involving CBP, FTC, or TTB are desirable.  Strong academic credentials; excellent analytical, research, writing, and interpersonal skills; attention to detail; and the ability to assume immediate responsibility are required.  Due to the technical nature of the practice, an undergraduate degree or some experience in a scientific field (biology, chemistry, mathematics, or engineering) will be helpful, but is not required.

A desire to learn, and an ability to manage multiple client priorities and take direction are critical.  Successful associates will be given significant client responsibility early on, including direct client contact.  The position requires collaboration across all firm offices on challenging and interesting work involving cutting-edge regulatory and health and safety issues while working in a collegial, team-based atmosphere.

The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) is seeking an experienced, strategic and collaborative grassroots leader to support and empower our 130+ member grassroots coalition. The successful candidate will be deeply committed to serving the sustainable agriculture movement and its federal policy work, skilled in grassroots campaign strategies and collaborate long-term power building approaches, an exemplary manager, and have demonstrated experience centering equity and justice in their work.

The Grassroots Director plans and implements winning campaigns to: build grassroots power, achieve NSAC's policy goals, and advance racial equity in agriculture and food systems. They also support capacity building efforts for coalition members, collaborate on communications and messaging, staff the Grassroots Council, and manage the grassroots team. The Grassroots Director shares in the leadership of the organization with the Coalition Director, to whom the Grassroots Director reports, along with the Policy Director. The Grassroots Director is a full-time, salaried position based in the Washington, DC office.
