The Detroit Food Policy Council is seeking an Executive Director to lead efforts advancing a more equitable, sustainable, and community-driven food system across Detroit. This role operates at the intersection of community engagement, government relations, and systems change, guiding policy strategy, partnerships, and organizational leadership.
Responsibilities include leading strategic planning, supporting board governance, advancing local, state, and federal food policy advocacy, and coordinating stakeholders across government, nonprofit, and private sectors. The role also involves overseeing research and data initiatives, supporting urban agriculture and local food economy efforts, managing fundraising and grant compliance, and serving as the organization’s primary public spokesperson.
Candidates should have at least 5 years of leadership experience in nonprofit management, public policy, community development, or a related field. Experience working with government entities, coalitions, and fundraising is required. Strong knowledge of food systems, public health, urban agriculture, or food equity issues is preferred, along with excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
Salary range: $85,000 to $95,000.
