United Food and Commercial Workers International Union – Policy Counsel (Washington, DC)

The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union represents workers across the food system, including retail food, meatpacking, poultry, food processing, manufacturing, and retail industries. UFCW advocates for improved wages, working conditions, and stronger communities.

UFCW seeks a Policy Counsel to join its Legislative and Political Action Department in Washington, DC. Reporting to the LAPAD Director, you will conduct legal and policy research on labor issues, track legislative and regulatory developments, and support the development of policy positions. You will draft reports, briefs, testimony, and advocacy materials, represent UFCW with policymakers and coalition partners, and manage special projects tied to legislative and policy campaigns.

You should hold an advanced degree in law, economics, business, or a related social science, or have equivalent experience. Experience working with labor unions is preferred. Strong research, writing, communication, and project management skills are essential, along with the ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast paced environment. Travel and irregular hours are expected.

Salary ranges from $89,996 to $109,996 per year. UFCW offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, life insurance, retirement and pension plans, 401(k) with employer match, paid leave, transportation benefits, and parental leave.
