General Mills seeks a Commercial Counsel to support its North America Retail business, home to brands such as Cheerios, Pillsbury, and Nature Valley. This role serves as a strategic legal partner to marketing, sales, and innovation teams, with a strong focus on advertising, marketing, and commercial law.
You will advise on advertising and packaging review, marketing campaigns, and sales initiatives while managing regulatory and litigation risk. You will support product launches in collaboration with food law, IP, and contracts teams, and provide practical legal guidance that aligns with business goals. The role requires independent issue spotting, sound judgment, and comfort operating in a fast paced environment while using legal technology and AI tools to improve efficiency.
You must hold a J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and be admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction, with Minnesota admission required within 12 months or eligibility for in house registration. You need three to five years of experience in commercial, marketing, advertising, or food regulatory law. In house experience at a consumer products company is strongly preferred. Strong communication skills, business judgment, and the ability to build trusted relationships are essential.
Salary ranges from $126,700 to $211,200 per year.
