The Center for Water Security and Cooperation and The Water Collaborative are offering a 10 week summer fellowship for law students interested in water law and policy. This fully remote fellowship runs from June 1 through August 7, 2026 and provides a $10,000 stipend, with limited travel funding available
In this role, you will conduct legal research on water quality, water management, drinking water, and local and state governance issues affecting communities across the Mississippi River watershed. You will contribute to internal and external publications, briefing materials, and strategy documents. You will translate complex legal concepts into accessible language for interdisciplinary and community audiences and engage with legal, policy, and community partners through meetings.
Fellows work closely with staff from both organizations and gain exposure to real world water protection, public health, and governance challenges across a multistate watershed. The position offers mentorship, skill development in research and writing, and insight into careers in water and environmental law
Applicants must be enrolled in a law school within Mississippi River corridor states. Completion of at least two years or 52 credits is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in practicing law in the Mississippi River watershed and a clear commitment to water or environmental law
