The Food is Medicine Institute seeks a State Technical Assistance Specialist to design and lead a new technical assistance function that helps states build Food is Medicine capacity and strengthen nutrition security efforts. This consulting role supports state initiatives tied to Medicaid waivers, CMS programs, SNAP, food labeling, and nutrition policy implementation.
You will lead state technical assistance engagements, adapt the Institute and Kaiser Permanente implementation toolkit for state use, and create repeatable guidance, templates, and training modules. The role tracks state policy developments, coordinates with research and policy teams, documents lessons learned, and identifies emerging state needs and funding pathways.
Candidates need 8 to 12 years of experience in state food policy, health policy, or delivery system transformation. Experience translating regulations into operational programs, familiarity with federal funding streams such as CMS waivers or USDA grants, and strong stakeholder management skills are required.
This is a 12 month consulting contract, renewable based on performance and funding, with an expected commitment of 20 to 30 hours per week.
