The ASPCA is hiring two Director, Legal Counsel positions to provide legal guidance across the organization’s programs, operations, and policy initiatives. These remote roles report to a Senior Director, Corporate Counsel and support departments including veterinary and shelter programs, government relations, disaster response, fundraising, communications, finance, and real estate.
You will draft and negotiate corporate agreements such as confidentiality agreements, consulting contracts, and other operational documents, while advising teams on legal risk, program development, and compliance with federal, state, and local laws. The role includes counseling internal clients on labor and employment matters, conducting legal research on issues affecting ASPCA initiatives, collaborating with outside counsel on litigation and complex matters, and providing internal training on legal risks and compliance.
Candidates must hold a JD from an ABA accredited law school and be licensed in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, with at least four years of legal practice experience. Strong contract drafting skills, sound judgment, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams are required. Experience with nonprofit corporate law or real estate, finance, education, or transportation matters is a plus.
Salary range: $128,000 to $163,000 depending on geographic pay zone.
