Earthjustice — Associate Attorney (Washington, DC)

Earthjustice is seeking an Associate Attorney for its Washington, DC office to support environmental litigation and advocacy on major national and regional issues. The office handles cases addressing climate change pollution, clean air and water protections, the transition to zero-emission energy, and stronger national energy efficiency standards. Much of the public health work focuses on preventing environmental harms to children, communities of color, and low-income communities. Earthjustice partners with communities and organizations to use the law to protect the environment and public health.

The Associate Attorney works closely with senior attorneys and professional staff to investigate, develop, and litigate cases. Responsibilities include legal research, factual investigation, record review, case development, client engagement, expert and witness preparation, drafting briefs and motions, and participating in oral and appellate advocacy. As attorneys gain experience, they may take primary responsibility for certain cases while continuing to support larger litigation efforts. The role also includes collaboration with colleagues, contributing to an inclusive workplace, and helping supervise interns or law clerks.

Candidates must hold a J.D., be admitted to or eligible for admission to the District of Columbia Bar, and have 0–3 years of post-law school legal experience, with litigation experience preferred. Strong research, writing, analytical, and communication skills are required, along with a demonstrated commitment to public interest work and environmental protection. The position is hybrid and based in Washington, DC.

Salary range: $105,000 – $121,200.
