The Specialty Food Association is seeking a Director, Industry Communications to lead media, social media, and influencer engagement strategies that raise the visibility of the association, its member companies, and the broader specialty food industry. This role focuses on generating publicity, strengthening industry relationships, and positioning the organization as a thought leader in specialty food and consumer eating trends.
You will develop and execute strategic media relations campaigns, pitch stories to trade and consumer media, and cultivate relationships with journalists and industry influencers. The role also oversees social media strategy and influencer engagement, working closely with the brand communications team to develop content and storytelling that highlights industry innovation and member products.
Responsibilities include managing media outreach and press operations for major industry events such as the Winter FancyFaire and the Summer Fancy Food Show, coordinating press invitations, drafting press releases, and supporting media placement for key association initiatives. You will also support industry trend reporting by helping manage the association’s Trendspotter Panel, aligning member products with emerging food trends, and assisting with the development of annual industry trend reports.
The role also supports executive thought leadership by identifying speaking opportunities for association leaders and developing talking points, Q&A materials, and social media content for executive communications.
Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, communications, or a related field and have at least ten years of experience working with trade and consumer media covering the food or specialty food industry. Strong media pitching experience, knowledge of the CPG food and beverage sector, and excellent writing, communication, and project management skills are required.
Salary range: $145,000 to $160,000.
